Tips for Washing Swimwear
- Wear and rinse
A day in the sun can leave all sorts of residue on your swimsuit, such as body oil, sunscreen, dirt, chlorine, and salt. Wash it away by gently rinsing your bathing suit after each use.
- Avoid wringing out a swimsuit
Wringing and twisting a swimsuit puts stress and strain onto its delicate fibers and elastic. Instead, gently press down on the swimwear and lay it flat to dry. If you’re in a hurry, roll it in a towel and press to squeeze out excess water. You can also use a cool hair dryer setting to speed the process up even more. However, it’s best to air dry it if you can.
- Hand wash with gentle detergent
Unless your swimsuit is particularly soiled or stained, it’s best to wash it with detergent after every three or four wears instead of after each time you wear it. Turn the item inside out and add a pump of mild liquid hand soap to a sink of cool water. Let the swimsuit soak for a few minutes in the water, then press out excess moisture, and rinse with cool water. Lay flat to dry.
- Machine wash cold
If you don’t have time or space to hand-wash your bathing suit, you can put it in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with cool water and a gentle detergent. It’s a good idea to use a mesh lingerie bag to keep all strings and embellishments from getting stuck onto other clothes. Once again, leave it to air dry.
