Tips for Proper Laundromat Etiquette

Tips for Using a Laundromat

If we asked most people to write down their favorite activity, not many (if any!) would include ‘going to the laundromat’ on their list. Due to this fact, it’s not surprising that people can get a little touchy when they’re going through the motions of their weekly ritual. To help make your next trip to our Chula Vista laundromat a snap, check out these tips.

Don’t leave your clothes unattended. As a general rule of thumb, don’t leave your clothes unattended. If you do decide to run a few errands while the machine works its magic, make sure you’re back in time to remove your clothes before the cycle ends.

Wait a few minutes before removing someone else’s load. If someone got held up running an errand, he or she may be a little late to unload the machine. If you are next in line to use the machine, wait a few minutes after the cycle ends before removing their clothes and placing them neatly above the machine.

Only use the recommended amount of detergent and bleach in the machine. Most washing machines have a label with directions under the lid. Following the recommendations will ensure you’ll get a better clean without overloading the machine or leaving any excess bleach behind. The next person to use the machine will appreciate this common courtesy, and so will your clothes!

Wait until the wash cycle is complete before claiming a dryer. When the laundromat is full, everyone will be eager to claim machines for their clothes. However, reserving a dryer when your clothes are still in the washer confuses the line and can hold other people up.

Leave the door or lid open when you’re done. Once you’ve removed a load from the washer or dryer and you’re finished with the machine, leave the lid or door open. This is clear and universal sign that the machine is available.

Watch your children. A laundromat can be a boring place for a kid. Luckily, at Fresh & Clean Laundry, we have Wi-Fi access, TVs, and a designated kids zone that will help to keep children entertained.
